MEMBERSHIP Renewals – it is time to renew your membership. Remember $35.00 includes 1 PIT, additional PITS are $10.00 each. MEMBERSHIP runs from SEPTEMBER 1 thru AUGUST 31 of each year.

Those joining now will be credited through August 31, 2016.

To be eligible for the IBCA ADDED MONEY, membership must be current as of August 31, 2015 for the 2016 fiscal year. Each year the added money is paid out to the TOP 15 in each meat category.

There have been some questions about the IBCA Invitational that is held each year. This is held in coordination with the ADDED Money event – this year’s meat will be Pork Butt/Shoulder – pulled. To qualify for this event you must have a 1st place in one of the basic meat categories and/or Grand Champion. You do not have to be a member to cook in the IBCA Invitational; however, if you chose to participate in the OPEN event, you would not be eligible for the IBCA added money.

Membership must be current as of 8-1-15
The IBCA added money will be Delight, AR this year at the Smokin’ at the Mill,
October 9-10, 2015 (2016 IBCA membership must be current as of 8-31-15 to be eligible for the added money)

Breast Fest. Buffalo Springs Park, Lubbock, TX. TX St. Championship. $10,000. 67 teams.
This is definitely one of those cook-offs that works very well for a whole family weekend getaway.
Besides being for a good cause, it’s a great event! Water & elect hookups, bathrooms with showers, and a lake to swim in. The park was bustling with cookers and on lookers. Music, snow cones, cold beverages and fun.
Friday started with the Margarita & chicken breast competition. Saturday’s turn ins consisted of beans, chicken, ribs, pulled pork & brisket and somewhere in the mix was a dessert kids Que.
When the smoke cleared, Gene Pruett, was GC and showed us all how it’s done!! He had a strong 32 points, hitting top 5 in all 4 meat categories! Atta boy Gene. Big Congratulations! Lance Moore won Reserve. Lance had to leave for a catering job as soon as brisket was turned in, however, I saw him pulling back into the park later that evening to celebrate. Congratulations Lance! Jennifer Campbell and crew did a good job putting this contest on. Thanks to Dana & her bunch for head judging. This one is already on our schedule for next year!

As the fiscal year comes to an end, and we welcome the incoming BOD, appreciation goes out to Jeff & Lynn Shivers, Terry & Laura Blount, Waldo Strein, Obie Obermark and the other founding fathers for having a vision back in 1989 of forming an organization called International Barbecue Cookers Association. I’m not sure they would have dreamed it would be as big as it has become.
MANY THANKS to all the “old timers”, (as a few say) for blazing the trail for the future.

Walker Keeny reports on D’Town BBQ Cook-off, Dumas, TX 8-8-15 31 teams.
Looking for a great event and not afraid to travel, then D’Town BBQ Cook-off, Dumas, TX is one to put onto your calendar. This was one of the most organized IBCA events on the schedule. The Dumas Chamber of Commerce really does it up.

Here are some of the things that they do for the cooks. As you arrive they check you in, inspect the meat, give you a goody bag with shirts, and sends you to your parking spot with
50 AMP service (free), cases of water as needed (free), 20 lbs. of ice (free), Friday night dinner and breakfast on Saturday morning. That is hard to beat. The park has plenty to do for the kids. Also, along with the Kids Que on Friday night. I would put this on your schedule for 2016.

A special Thanks goes out to Jennifer & Travis Homer for a judging job well done. The fine members of the Chamber of Commerce Doreen Aikman & Sam Cartwright and their helpers for doing it up for the cooks.

This event had 31 cooks this year but there is plenty of room to grow. I was fortunate to be named Grand Champion and congrats to David Ray, RGC, and all who got calls in the tough competition. Hope to see all of you next year. Be sure to lock and make sure you have your BBQ Pit securely attached. Safe travels.

I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all that have supported me and the IBCA for the past 20 years. It has been rewarding to watch this organization grow to the second largest sanctioning organization in the USA and one of the BEST.

To all of you that I have personally met and those of you that I have talked to over the phone for years, I have enjoyed every minute of it and consider you as friends.

Being involved in the BBQ world has been very rewarding and I will cherish all of the things that we have gotten to do and places that I have travelled overseeing the judging at events from Virginia to California.
