REPORTS from events:
Andy Anderson reports that the Rosenberg Masonic
BBQ scored another great hit with their most
recent cook off. Only 10 teams has pre-registered
and they had a total of 22 teams this year. One
team wasn’t able to make it and donated their entry
fee to the scholarship fund.
Great teams, great weather and a great time. Mark
your calendar for this event next year.
Knights of Columbus, Irving had 27 teams turn
out to participate this year — the weather was a
little uncertain at times but everyone had a good
time. Waldo stated that everyone was surprised when
Ray Green, North Main BBQ, was named Grand
Champion—first time Ray has won in a long time.

Laverne reports that the Brazos County Go Texan
BBQ was a great event. This year there were 39
teams participating and 13 JR cooks. With 6
categories and the Kid’s Que, she and Cathy D.
stayed busy all day and was ready for awards at
5:30.
Rojelio Cuellar reports that the 1st Annual Taste
of South Texas in Zapata was held April 5, 2008.
Ten teams cooked along side the Bass Masters Elite
Series Event held on Falcon Lake. Several IBCA
cooking teams like Y B Legal, Tim Lemon, Nombre
Callente, Allen Gray, and Bid D’s BBQ, Danny Luera
cooked along side seven local and first time cooking
teams. All were out recruiting the teams to join
IBCA and the newly formed Rio Grande BBQ Assn.
Thanks to all the Zapata County Chamber of Commerce
staff for making everyone feel welcome and making
the event a memorable one. This cook-off is a sure
to grow next year. Watch for the date.
Jeff Wyatt reported that the 4th Oil Patch BBQ,
Kilgore was a good cook-off with 37
participating. This year each Head Cook received a
nice cutting board as a Thank You for attending the
event. Merlyn Holmes & her BBQ Committee do a great
job each year with this event. Watch for the date
next year.
Montgomery County Fair BBQ, Conroe, was
sanctioned by IBCA again this year after not being
sanctioned for a couple of years. Charlie & Joy and
a group of helpers made this event with 119 teams
run very smoothly. This event has a waiting list,
and the only way to get into this event is if
someone should drop out but you must have a
Montgomery County address.
Cathy Demottier reported that the Brazos Valley
API BBQ & Roping was a great event with 38
teams. The Promoters fed all the teams and their
members on Friday night a catfish and jambalaya
dinner.
Rockdale VFW 6525 doubled in entries this
year reports Dee Dee and everyone had a great time.
Tomball Area Shrine Club BBQ had 50 teams
participating this year—Steve & Donna were the Head
Judges at this event and stated that everything went
fine.
Brad & Mary Caraway ran the judging at the
Cowhill Chili Fest & BBQ, Commerce this year—the
first time to be sanctioned by IBCA, with 13 teams.
Robert Armor swept the competition with 3 first
places.
Another first time event was the Wise County Wild
Hog Event, Decatur. Angie reported that
everything went fairly smooth with the exception of
the turn-in times.
It seems that the Promoters are all trying to do too
many categories on one day —
