24th Traders Village BBQ
This year’s event was a great one—with 123 teams
participating in the Open on Sunday, 85 Obie-Cue
Backyard Chicken Challenge, 55 IBCA Invitational, 83
Beans, and 40 Kid’s Que. The Kid’s Que seems to
grow every year. This is our next generation of BBQ
Cooks.
We would like to thank everyone who helped in the
Judging area this year. This is a task that one
person can't do alone.
We had good representation from the different PITS—Blackland,
Pineywoods, Louisiana BBQ Cookers Assn., South
Texas, Third Coast and Texas BBQ Assn. We had teams
from OK and the west Texas area.
This year’s prize money was almost $25,000 for the
entire week-end. Thanks to Allan Hughes and Traders
Village for having this event each year.
Mark the second week-end of October 2008 and plan to
attend this event.

St. John Berchman’s BRONCO BBQ BASH, Grand
Coteau, LA.
There were 21 teams that participated in this
new LA. State Championship event and the
location was beautiful. The St. John Berchman’s
school is tucked back into a grove of trees with
lots of space for additional cookers next year.
This year in each of the goodie bags—the boy’s
class wrote thank you notes to each of the teams
that participated with a copy of the class
picture. All of the cooks were trying to find
out who their “friend” was in the picture — a
unique idea. Andrea Stoute and her staff did a
great job of making sure that the cooks were
taken care. Thanks to Andy & Lynn Hollerman for
helping in the judging area.
Watch the calendar for next year’s date and plan
to attend this event.

LOUISIANA BBQ COOKERS ASSN.
We are proud to announce the formation
of a new “PIT”, the Louisiana BBQ
Cookers Assn. (LBCA) by Clarence “Bo”
Jackson 337-515-5746. With the growth
of the BBQ events in Louisiana we feel
that this organization will grow. This
past year IBCA has doubled in the number
of events—Maurepas, Florien, Lafayette,
Gonzales, Grand Coteau, Port Allen,
and Farmerville. Other events are in
the works at this time.

Since the last newsletter we have had 19
sanctioned events from one end of the state to
the other plus Louisiana and Arkansas.
Nine (9) of these events were first time events
and were big successes. This has been a great
year for events and IBCA will sanction close to
130 events this calendar year.
Thanks to all of those that donated items for
the raffle at Traders Village benefiting KASH
for KIDS. This money along with the entry fees
from the Obie-Cue Backyard Chicken Challenge
will be presented to their representative at
the December 5th meeting. If you would like to
bring diapers, baby toiletries, non perishable
food items, etc. for the Rainbow Room emergency
supplies please do so.
Parade of Lights 2007,
Ft Worth—we will have several BBQ pit spaces—so
if you might be interested in participating in
this event please contact Waldo. Space is
limited.
The National BBQ Assn. Convention and Tradeshow
will be held in Austin Feb20-23, 2008. IBCA is
planning to have a booth there to promote the
organization, sign up new members and sell IBCA
merchandise. Saturday, Feb. 23rd, is Public
Day—tickets are $15.00 for 1st adult, $10.00
there after—$8.00 for children under 12. To
attend any of the classes that are being offered
check out their webpage - www.nbbqa.org and
download the information.
Congratulations to the IBCA teams that
participated in the American Royal.
Also, congratulations to those that will
participating at the Jack Daniels Invitational.
Good Luck to all — show them that Texas rules in
BBQ.

Jen reports
The First Shot BBQ, Gonzales, TX
was a GREAT event. Shirley Breitscheph and her
group did a fantastic job in organizing this
even and making sure everything ran smoothly.
The event was held at the new rodeo pavilion and
we had a nice air conditioned room to do the
judging. They had all of their judges lined up
in advance and were ready to go on time.
I would recommend this event to everyone. They
had a lot of parking space and hook-ups for
trailers. A dinner was available for all the
cooks on Friday night and a good time was had by
all.
Tim reports the
Palm Fest BBQ & Fajita, McAllen
had a great location to hold an event—with 28
teams participating in the first year to be
sanctioned and adding BBQ to the mix of things.

Pineywoods BBQ Assn. announces the
results of their recent election. Jim
Worsham will remain Pit Boss and Brad Caraway
will be the other IBCA representative on the
Board.

Wings BBQ, Mena, AR along with a car, truck,
motorcycle show, airplane rides, games took

the cook-off with teams from Arkansas and Texas.
A big thank you to: Mena/Polk County Chamber of
Commerce, Richard Myhand, Robert and Cindy
Crider.
Mark your calendar for next year in October and
come to join in the cooking/smoking and fun.
