ANNUAL IBCA SATURDAY MEETING
The
2007 Annual Saturday meeting will be held in Austin
again this year on August 4, 2007. We felt that it
is a central location for most areas. It will be at
the VFW 8787, 500 VFW Rd., Austin.
Remember this is election year—and nominations will
be accepted by mail or email. Positions to be
filled are Executive Director, Jeff Shivers and 2
Board of Directors at Large, Michelle Wade and
Laverne Akin.
Any
proposed rule changes should be mailed or emailed to
the office prior to August 1.
Anyone
having any suggestions of things they might like to
see at the meeting, please contact us. This is your
organization.
We
will have raffle items and IBCA merchandise at the
meeting. Hope to see everyone there.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME
It is that time of
the year again. All General Memberships must be
current as of AUGUST
31, 2007
to qualify for the added money at the Traders
Village event October 13-14. Lifetime members
need to pay the PIT dues also.
You will note on
your Newsletter label your membership number and
due date—if it has 8-31-07 then it’s time to
renew. Thanks to all for supporting IBCA.
Also, if you have internet access please notify
this office—we have started posting the Smokin’

will save on postage and printing. THANKS
Caldwell FFA Booster’s 20th Annual BBQ Cook
off, Caldwell, TX
By Laverne Akin
The Caldwell FFA cook off (first time sanctioned
by IBCA) was a successful event with 45 teams
competing (up from 29 in 2006).
With the support of approximately 75 businesses
and many individuals the annual event raises
money for the Caldwell FFA Booster Club
Scholarship Fund. Area supporters and cookers
donated and bought live and silent auction
items, won prizes in a raffle and participated
in the cook off.
Thanks go to the event organizers Lee & Cathy
Demottier for doing an outstanding job.
Mark this on your calendar for next year and
have fun Q’in as well as supporting the FFA
Booster Club Scholarship Fund.
Congrats to all that got their names called.
Taking
the High Steaks
By Gene Espinona
Over 70 teams competed in the 2nd Annual Texas
Cook’em High Steaks in Edinburg. Teams from
across Texas traveled to participate in the Rio
Grand Valley’s most unique cook off featuring
sirloin steak, 1/2 chicken, pork spare ribs, and
beef brisket. Texas Cook’em had $15,000 prize
money.
And the winner is … Don Canterbury as Grand
Champion and his wife, Jan, was the Reverse and
last year’s Grand Champion. This husband and
wife from Conroe took home over 8 trophies, not
to mention a hefty amount of cash.
From the Chairman…”I would like to take this
time to thank everyone who made our event a
success. We had 74 official teams! There were
78 registered but some could not make the trip.
A big abraso “hug” to all of the cooks that
worked hard in the 98+ degree temperature.. All
of our volunteers worked really hard to keep the
event running on time. Our judge’s pool was
awesome (150 plus) and special thanks to all of
our sponsors.” We look forward to 2008.
