“Chilly” Chili & BBQ Cook-off
Austin, TX
The 2007 “Chilly” BBQ & Chili
Cook-off was a great event. The weather cooperated
this year but it was cold. Dee Dee and her BBQ
committee do a great job every year putting this event
together. Bob Barton, Dee Dee’s husband, makes all of
the trophies for this event. They were etched
cement Texas shaped trophies for all of the meat categories
in different sizes. For the margarita, salsa, and
dessert categories, he etched some unique items for
trophies.
This year’s event had 78
teams with only 4 cooks placing twice in the 3 basic meats.
Laurie Parker, Laurie P’s, was named Grand Champion and
Jim Worsham, J & J Redneck, was Reserve.
Watch the calendar for next
year’s date and make this event one to attend. |

Message from the Pineywoods BBQ Assn., Jim Worsham |
 |
January 20, 2007, the
Pineywoods BBQ Assn. held their first meeting in Naples and
had a great turn out with 30 members attending. Thanks
to Brad Caraway for getting the building for the meeting and
to Jan, my wife, for supplying lunch for everyone.
It was voted that the Naples
Pit Rassler Classic will be where the added money for the
Pineywood members will be paid out in 2007. To be
eligible for the added money your membership must be current
as of June 30, 2007.
We have several new events in
our area this year and are working on several more, so
please check the web site often (www.ibcabbq.org)
One of the new ones will be in Mineola, for Wounded
Warriors, so please try to attend this one.
I hope to see all of you
attend as many cook-offs as possible. This is YOUR
organization, so let’s make it the best year ever!

Tidbits |
|
Have you checked out our new webpage page recently? We have
been making some major changes and trying to set it up to be
user friendly.
One thing that I had been asked to do in the past and we
finally accomplished is putting a copy of the flyers onto
the webpage.
You will notice 3 stars by the events on the year page — the
Green Star is for the flyers, Red for results and gold for
pictures.
If you should take pictures at a cook-off of the pits,
winners, etc and would like to share with us, please send
them.
I want to say thank you to Don Wright and Darrell Quiroz for
all the work that they have done on getting our webpage set
up in this format.
Also, I would like to announce that the IBCA now has it’s
own BBQ Discussion Forum. Our goal is to have discussion
forums that are fun and lively, while keeping an environment
that is also professional and respectful of the BBQ
enthusiasts.
Thanks to Don and Terry Michael for making this happen so
quickly.

At the February meeting, Jeff announced that we had
18 new events on the calendar. We currently have 90+ events
on the calendar for 2007 with others coming in.
|
Do you know anyone that has let their membership lapse or
someone new that would like to become a member? March 1
thru June 15, 2007 we will be running a MEMBERSHIP SPECIAL.
$45.00 will cover membership into the IBCA and 1 PIT thru
8-31-08.
Have them fill out the application and return to this
office.

Louisiana seems to have burst open for BBQ with new events
in Farmerville, Lafayette, and Gonzales. Also talking with
2 other events for later in the year. If you get the
opportunity to attend one of the events, please do and
support that area in starting BBQ cook-offs.

Would like to start receiving your newsletter via email or
read it on the webpage. I realize that there are some of
you that don’t have a computer but those that do have, if
you would like to start receiving your newsletter via email
please let me know. This would cut back on the amount of
postage that we spend each month on the mail outs. At this
time we are mailing 550 issues each month to the membership
roster.
